North Coast Beginning Teacher Program
PARAPROFESSIONAL
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
“Paraprofessionals provide valuable instructional services to students. Paraprofessional Teacher Training Programs
help recruit talented individuals into the teaching profession.”
—California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
The North Coast Paraprofessional Teacher Training Program (NCPTTP) is funded by a grant from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). NCPTTP is administered by the North Coast Beginning Teacher Program and is housed at the Sonoma County Office of Education. NCPTTP is a regional program, serving districts and county offices in seven counties.
A total of forty paraprofessionals may be enrolled in NCPTTP during any given academic year. Currently the annual amount of financial support is $3,000 per year. This amount can be applied to the costs of tuition, books and fees. In exchange, the participant agrees to fulfill all credential requirements and to complete one year of teaching for each year of support received through the program.
Program Implementation: A Collaborative Effort
NCPTTP is a collaborative effort among the districts, county offices of education, colleges and universities in the North Coast region.

IHE’s (Institutes of Higher Education): Recruitment; provide academic counseling and coursework.

NCPTTP: Administrative oversight of the program; recruitment, record keeping, provide program information to region; attend statewide meetings; arrange reimbursements for participants; convene cohort meetings; offer resources and workshops; liaison with CCTC; program design and oversight through Advisory Board; program evaluation.
